Our programs include practical experiences such as internships, apprenticeships, and collaborative projects with industry professionals. These experiences are complemented by Career & Technical Education courses in Business Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Financial Literacy, and Workforce Development, equipping students with essential skills and knowledge for their future careers. This model not only enhances students' technical abilities but also prepares them for the professional world by fostering critical thinking, creativity, and leadership.
Individuals will acquire essential skills in professional and personal business etiquette. Scholars will gain extensive knowledge and learn how to apply basic professional marketing and networking skills, which can benefit them in their future career transitions in the ever-changing world of work. Some classes will also offer leadership training, workshops, cotillions, and fashion/trade shows. Our aim is to empower the younger generation and equip them with the necessary skills to become efficient leaders of the world.
The purpose of Drama is to provide students with an education in theaters. Through the program, students will gain knowledge of basic acting techniques and theaters terminology that is appropriate for their grade level. In addition, Drama is designed to foster an environment that encourages teamwork, critical thinking, imagination, idea generation, and problem-solving skills among students. Through the program, students will also develop an improved ability to concentrate, self-confidence, and social skills. Overall, students are expected to put forth their best effort to achieve individual and group success. Live production(s) will be presented at the end of each session.
The creative writing curriculum for high school students typically focuses on providing students with opportunities to explore and develop their writing skills in various genres of creative writing, such as fiction, poetry, drama, and creative non-fiction.
The curriculum generally covers the basics of writing, such as grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, but also focuses on the craft of creative writing. This includes elements such as character development, setting, plot, dialogue, pacing, and other literary devices. Students end the program with creating their own creative writing piece.
This course is an introduction to marketing and merchandising concepts in fashion retail, with an emphasis on the apparel and accessories. Topics include: the meaning of the ‘brand’ in today consumer market, how to forecast trends, the product supply chain, the vertical business model and outsourcing, visual merchandising, publicity and advertising, different forms of in store and non-store retail, consumer behavior and profiles, information systems, store location and design and assessing the quality/cost equation of products. On site visits to fashion retailers in the Chicago area. Final programming objective will be a Fashion Show held by the students with their own designs or local designers in the community.
Dance classes for young students are tailored to meet their developmental needs according to their age. This class explores both the creative and physical dimensions of each child as they gain awareness of music, rhythm, and movement. Activities are designed to develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression. Creativity is emphasized to encourage the artistic exploration of movement and allow the child's natural talent and skills to be discovered. Children will develop rhythm, motor skills, balance, and coordination while learning the fundamentals of ballet.
Dancing pointe is the action of rising to the "tips of the toes" while wearing hard-toed shoes and performing steps learned from Ballet technique. Dancing en pointe requires considerable strength and skill and is for the serious minded student. Only those found qualified by the teacher may participate in this class.
Hip Hop is a contemporary form of dance combining some of today's high-energy "street style" movements like jazz, funk, footwork, and break-dance. Typically performed to "popular music", this style of dancing can be seen in movies, television commercials, and music videos. Sought after by pre-teens, teens, and the "young at heart", the style boasts that everyone is capable of having fun while moving at a fast pace.
This style of dance focuses on the Historically Black College and University style by forming dance lines. Our dancers are trained through intense jazz techniques, flexibility, and agility. All dancers make use of baton twirling.
This is a performance class where the students compete at different venues. Physical education credit can be earned for this course. Students will learn and/or enhance prior rudimental style solos, Students will learn daily instructional teachings on Sight-reading and basic rhythmic skills through the study of snare drum, bass drum, cymbals, and quads.
Career Technical Education (CTE) provides students of all ages with the academic and technical skills, knowledge and training necessary to succeed in future careers and to become lifelong learners. Classes are offered for 5th-12th grade scholars and can be taught during the school day, enrichment and elective credit is offered.
This course is designed to fulfill the elective credit requirements for school and is suitable for all students. Students will possess valuable skills and knowledge related to business planning, operation, structure, and startup. The curriculum includes teachings on mindset, marketing, business analytics, profit planning, financials, budgeting, insurance needs, and legal structuring of a business. At the end of each course, students will participate in a Shark Tank Pitch Episode, which offers the chance to win monetary awards to help start their business and receive one year of business coaching to aid in the launch of their venture.
Classes are offered for grades K-12 and older through “Life Skills.” We empower our students with the essential skills of Health, Social Emotional Learning, Work Force, Development, Insurance, Banking, Credit, Investing with Stocks & Real Estate. Budgeting is also covered
through saving and responsible spending to prepare our scholars for a secure
financial future. Practical lessons, real-world scenarios, and expert guidance make learning about money engaging and impactful.
